Hypnotherapy
I specialise in evidence-based Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy (CBH), which is a short term therapy with long term results.
You can take comfort that the methods I use have a science and evidence-based background which are approved for the treatment of stress-related conditions by the British Medical Association, the American Medical Association and the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE).
Hypnosis is a way of focusing attention, and Hypnotherapy is a method of using hypnosis as a therapeutic tool. It is a collaborative process conducted in a safe and positive way. We all experience hypnosis, which is in essence a deeply relaxing state, such as when you are engrossed in a book and oblivious to everything around you, or when driving from A to B but feel you are unaware of the journey. If you can imagine putting all your thoughts into a funnel and bringing them into a tiny focussed stream, that’s hypnosis. It isn’t magic, you will be aware of what is happening, you will be in control and able to respond.
Working together, I’ll help you identify and set your goals, develop new coping behaviours to overcome unwanted habits and develop new positive behaviours. You will not get ‘stuck’ in hypnosis and can bring yourself out at any time should you want to. As well as hypnosis, I use a variety of methods such as visualisation, relaxation techniques, mindfulness, etc.
CBH can help you with:
- Becoming a Non-Smoker, with aids for relapse prevention
- Insomnia
- Dental Procedures
- Weight Control
- Speech and Public Speaking
- Sports Performance
- Fears and Phobias, such as flying, needles, mice, spiders etc
- Unwanted habits such as nail biting, hair pulling, scratching etc
Plus many more.
How many sessions will I need?
As we are all individual and our requirements vary, it can be difficult to predict. Some issues can be overcome in one or two sessions, however, it may take four to six sessions, or even more depending on the complexity of the concern. Most issues require two appointments, the first will be the initial consultation with a short treatment, and at the end of the second appointment your progress will be reviewed and plan for further sessions, if required.
